Choosing a Rug Pad for Tile Floors

This is the superhero landing zone family room in our home. My son likes to jump off the couch {he’s not allowed to do this; but you know how that goes} while being a superhero…. fighting a ninja… normal family room things.

Unfortunately, we’ve got a tile floor. Tile isn’t so friendly to superheroes that might fall occasionally. Tile is hard. And rugs are slippery.

So, when Rug Pad USA offered to send me a rug pad, this room was the obvious choice. After all, we needed to save a few of those superhero brain cells.

If you’ve read for a long time, you might remember that this rug was my first-ever craigslist purchase. I’m still a huge fan of flatweave rugs; but they don’t offer that soft and cushy feel that you get with a plush rug.

Since we’ve got a ninja {really, we do} and a toddler in this house, a rug pad is a great option. I can keep my easy-to-clean flatweave rug; but we can enjoy cushioning similar to a much thicker rug.

Flatweave rugs also tend not to stay put, since they are often lighter weight than other rugs. The non-slip backing on the premium-Lock rug pad is saving me the task of frequently straightening the rug through the day.

Even though Rug Pad USA had told me that their rug pads were eco-friendly, I still expected it to have an odor. Several years ago, we bought a foam mattress and the foam smelled for weeks. Leaving it in an unused room with open windows — in the dead of winter — finally caused it to air out. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the rug pad and it was odor-free.
