5 Simple Gift Wrapping Ideas for Christmas

With these 5 simple gift wrapping ideas, you can wrap beautiful Christmas gifts. From photo gift tags, to fabric scrap ribbons, and magnolia leave gift tags — you may even have most of the supplies at home!

The holidays are busy, right?! So many things on the To-Do List, yet we don’t want to sacrifice meaning and joy for the sake of getting everything done. That is why I’m determined to only use simple gift wrapping ideas this year – there is just no time for complicated wrapping, am I right?

I have to remind myself how important it is to make smart choices and simplify life. While beautifully wrapped gifts may be a great goal; if it means wrapping until well after midnight on Christmas Eve, is it worth it? This year, I’m being intentional about tackling that To-Do List in a way that is enjoyable — not stressful.

Our gifts this year are wrapped beautifully {in my humble opinion *wink*} but it’s a simple process. In fact, the whole family got involved — even my toddler. We grabbed a pizza and drinks from our local Kroger for an easy dinner. Then, we wrapped gifts around the table, while enjoying time together as a family.

To keep it extra simple, the gifts are wrapped in brown kraft paper. If the paper is neutral, you and your family can be creative with tags and ribbon. Needing a bit of inspiration? I bet you will love these 5 DIY Christmas Gift Wrap Ideas!

Simple Gift Wrapping Ideas

#1: Photo Gift Tags

Don’t you just the love the smiling faces of those dear to you? Surprise them with their own photos atop a Christmas gift. As a bonus, no one has to decipher my messy handwriting with these photo gift tags.

Before wrapping, print your favorite photos onto cardstock. Then, use washi tape or fabric scraps to attach each picture to the gift.

#2: Fabric Scraps as Ribbon

Have a fabric stash on hand? Cut seasonal colored fabric into strips as a replacement for the typical shiny ribbon. Fabric “ribbon” adds a rustic touch while putting a dent in that stash of fabric scraps.

#3: Washi Tape Letters

Washi tape isn’t just useful for attaching tags, it can be the actual gift tag, too. Cut and tape letters with washi tape for a fun, personalized {and giant!} gift tag.

#4: Natural Gift Tags

Head out to the backyard and grab items from nature to decorate a gift. We have a giant magnolia tree, and I regularly use the leaves for decorating {see them on the mantel, in napkin rings, and as place cards}. To make a magnolia leaf gift tag, use a chalk marker to write names directly on a leaf.

#5: Scrap Leather Gift Tags

If you’ve got old leather {faux or real!} bags and coats lying around, re-purpose them into small gift tags. The leather tags have a masculine vibe and can be labeled with chalk markers, too.

Make Gift Wrapping a Family Affair

Schedule a few gift wrapping nights on your calendar this holiday season. Instead of cramming gift wrapping in at the last minute, make it a family affair. Throw a pizza in the oven, set out drinks, and fill the center of the dining table with wrapping supplies.

Then, enjoy family time, while tackling a project together. We finished a whole stack of gifts, and my kids loved decorating them {especially with the photo gift tags!}.
