Entry Way Spring Tour and Blog Hop

You’ll be pleased to know, that my door has been dressed.

Much better, right?

Today, several blog friends and I are joining together for a Spring Tour Blog Hop. We’re each sharing a room in our home and how it’s been updated for Spring. Even though I don’t typically put much time into seasonal decorating, I do get the urge to refresh spaces in the spring — think cleaning, organizing and updating a fresh detail or two.

Like a new wreath. This simple, petite, wreath was created with clippings from one of our boxwoods. I absolutely love the delicate touch it adds to our door.

It’s hung well above a cast iron “Welcome” sign, a memento of our visit to the Botanical Trails at Rockcastle River Trading Co.

Like the “Welcome” sign, much of the decor in our home is collected piece by piece. That, to me, is what creating a home is all about. It’s a slower process, but I much prefer the end result. Take the furniture in this space, for example. Each piece was thrifted and has it’s own story — from the keyhole detailing on our antique dresser to the mid-century swivel chair and refurbished vanity turned console table.

Of course, we use this space every day — so don’t confuse “antique” or “collected” with “precious” or “untouchable.” We’ve got 2 little kids and our home is a place in which we want them to feel comfortable. Actually, that’s one of the things I love about thrifted furniture — if I only spent $20 on a chair, it doesn’t need to be treated delicately. Thrifted furniture has been pre-loved. It’s probably not in perfect condition, but those dings and time-worn details mean that I won’t be stressed the first time it gets bumped by the kids.

We use this space every day, so we’ve stored shoes in baskets underneath the chair and console table. The chair comes in handy as a spot to put on shoes. Above the chair is a mirror that I refinished and hung for hair and makeup checks on the way out the door. Plus, it has a small drawer for store discount cards and keys.

As a temporary spring update, I hung a colorful print on the mirror with washi tape. The Bible verse is a recent favorite of mine and the print has a definite springtime feel {you can find more colorful prints in my shop}.

I tidied up the top of the dresser in a small spring cleaning and organization effort. It’s been a great drop zone for us, but sometimes it needs a little pick me up. Plus, it’s always fun to switch things around on my husband… {just teasing, honey}.

The map wall is one of my favorite personalized touches in our home. We love traveling, globes and maps which makes for the perfect “welcome” when you walk in our door. It’s a happy, unexpected, detail that is often a conversation piece with guests.

This whole space features wall art that introduces our guests to who we are as a family — and not just with photos.

Our stairwell is lined with quirky art, printed scripture, and special keepsakes {even our babies’ shoes}. It’s a peek into our personality, faith and family history.

To the right of the front door, we’ve created a small gallery of where we’ve lived — including a handrawn sketch of our first home and vintage postcards from each city we’ve called “home.”
