Navy Master Bedroom Reveal

I have pinned dark, moody, bedrooms for years and I’m happy to finally share with you the full reveal of our very own navy Master Bedroom. The magic of these deep navy walls is that they are incredibly cozy at night, yet during the day the room is light and bright. Morning sun pours in from the windows and it’s a space that makes it easy to wake up and greet the day. I can’t wait to show you more…

NAVY MASTER BEDROOM : SPACE PLANNING

Let’s start at the beginning. Our Master Bedroom is an average sized room — but 3 windows, 2 doors, and a closet make for difficult space planning. We eventually decided to forgo the dressers and use only wardrobes {here are all the floor plan options we considered}. It’s a decision that I haven’t regretted for a minute. In fact, I’ve fallen in love with wardrobes since they are packed with storage and incredibly functional.

You know, I feel like it always takes me months to get to the actual reveal… and this room is another example. Our bedroom has been “finished” for well over a year, but it was a lengthy search for the right nightstands. I found the wood nightstand in March and just updated the black nightstand this week with a few coats of Valspar Chalky Finish Paint {if you have a detailed eye, you may have noticed it was still black in the photos above}. Both nightstands are on the small side, which works well as part of a tight-on-space floor plan.

Each nightstand flanks a Linen Upholstered Headboard purchased for less than $100 on clearance… a steal. I’m a fan of symmetry when it comes to nightstands, but we just weren’t having any luck tracking down an affordable pair. Instead, the window treatments and lampshades provide symmetry to balance the mismatched nightstands.

NAVY MASTER BEDROOM : TEXTURE & PATTERN

I was intentional about texture and pattern in this room, trying to incorporate a variety of both. If you are intimidated by mixing colors, textures, and prints; start with a solid base. In the case of this room, the base is a white quilt, white curtains, and a creamy headboard.

So how do you introduce pattern into a bedroom when the quilt, curtains, and headboard are solid in color? Aren’t those the key items in a bedroom? Yes, so you must layer fabrics and materials to turn those simple pieces into something dynamic and interesting. For example, an Ikat rug under the bed and an African throw over the headboard bring in both pattern and color. I chose these patterns to balance the femininity of the bedding that we already owned. I love those girly, floral, pillow shams — but my husband uses this space, too.

Similarly, the bamboo blinds, barn wood bench, and woven basket add the contrasting texture to all the soft finishes in the room. The blinds and woven basket also bring in warmth to a cool-toned space.

I love your bedroom, it looks simple but so beautiful, cozy. I am a big fan of white and navy, i see you mix them perfectly. But is it your bed small, i think i will choose a bigger size lol.

Thanks, Laura! It's a good color combo. The bed is a queen, we could fit a king, but I like the roomier look :)

It's not easy to overheat emotionally and get upset or aggressive in a 'cool' environment - and the color blue has actually been shown to free the mind. I'm so interested in your DIY jewelry organizer - such a cool way to organize them. But I'm still afraid whether it is hard to make or not, but will definitely give it a try. :)

I lovey your room. Thanks for the suggestion !!!
