Summer Decorating Ideas + Dining Room Tour

Thanks to At Home, my Dining Room has received a makeover. She feels a bit more summery and colorful. I must say, I love her new look.

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by At Home, but the opinions expressed are 100% my own.

Nothing major was changed. No paint, no curtains, no flooring, no furniture, no lighting. It’s just the accessories… but what a difference it made. The space feels fresh, warm, and inviting with a loosely beach-inspired vibe.

Summer Decorating Ideas: The Table

Driftwood and a buoy-like candle anchor the center of the table, flanked by faux boxwoods. They are set atop a lace runner, which feels airy and perfect for summer.

These graphic placemats from At Home were a great price {$7 for 4} and pair well with the lace runner, keeping the table from feeling too feminine. They’ve got an energetic and bold print, which speaks to the playfulness of summer.

Summer Decorating Ideas: The Mantel

If you’ve followed this blog long, you know that I love to mix styles. On the mantel, you’ll find the same combination… a mix of bold and modern, with beachy and organic.

The geode print is stunning. I tried to reflect that in the photos, but I’m not sure you can fully appreciate it unless you see it in person. It’s the perfect marriage of modern and earthy. The colors are bold and dramatic, yet it’s an organic item found within nature.

The chalkboard art is one of my favorite DIY art projects {you can find the tutorial here} and it’s a great backdrop to the collection on the mantel. When you are decorating a mantel, books are a great way to pull in extra height and color. The blue and white succulent planter felt small next to the green glass jar. However, once I tucked several books underneath it, there was a nice balance.

Summer Decorating Ideas: The Buffet

There is a mix of real and faux plants throughout the room, which definitely accents that beachy, nature-inspired feel. Several of our real plants set on the buffet, where they get plenty of natural sunlight.

And again, you find that mix of style and texture which I love. The center of the buffet is a bamboo tray topped with a vintage Scrabble game, marble cheese cloche, and snake plant in a pewter trophy cup.

There wasn’t enough of the beachy blue shades in this part of the room, so I stuck a bamboo plant in a feminine teapot and set a blue creamer aside my DIY succulent planter.

Everything on the buffet was already in this room, I just shifted our accessories around a bit to highlight more color. An easy way to refresh a room is to simply move accessories to a new spot.

Summer Decorating Ideas: The China Cabinet

It was from our hutch that I pulled many of the items to use around the room, but it didn’t change much, itself. Yet, it features a simple update that I absolutely love.

I stacked tablecloths that fit this summery color palette on top of the hutch. It’s a simple detail, but I like the casual, farmhouse feel of having them on display instead of tucked away. It’s another example of using items that I already own, placed in a new home.

I can’t thank At Home enough for sponsoring this summer refresh. It’s a welcome change in a room that I already loved, but that I like to switch up and reinvent. I’d imagine you are curious as to what was actually bought and not just pulled from around the house…

I intentionally chose items from At Home that were versatile. The geode art was the biggest splurge, but I can see myself using it in most any room. It would fit perfectly in my master bedroom, for example. Candles, jars, planters and faux plants can work throughout the home and are basic accessories, perfect for refreshing spaces when the mood to redecorate strikes.

I’m excited that this seasonal makeover is versatile enough to work throughout the year — and throughout the home.
