A Simple {& Free} Ikea Clock Makeover

One of our first-ever purchases from Ikea was this red clock.

We loved the unique, modern shape and it fit perfectly in the fun, bright color scheme we had planned for the basement in our old house.

This was one of the first rooms that we decorated in that home. I still like the color red; but, as we decorated more of our home, we realized that we gravitate towards softer colors.

However, we couldn’t just toss everything red that we owned… and we liked many of the pieces, like this clock. It just needed a new life.

Now it’s sitting in our freshly painted dining room. I painted it in a beige-y/greenish/gray {yes, of course, that is a color}. It was a leftover sample pot of paint I had on hand called Ashwood by Behr.

After two coats of paint, I also gave it two quick coats of spray gloss {affiliate link}. If you do much crafting, this is a great product to have on hand. It protects a painted surface — not for a heavily used item like furniture, but for smaller, decorative items.

As you can see, our little succulent garden is doing great! I only water it every few weeks.

As a side note, I went into Anthropologie yesterday and they had hardware marked 20% off. You can find the same deal online. We’ve got another Ikea makeover planned and I ordered several each of these two knobs: the streamline knob and the caricature knob. We aren’t an Anthro affiliate and this isn’t a sponsored plug — I just wanted to share a good deal with you on some of the prettiest hardware around!
