How quickly can you clean up your home? When my husband and I were dating, he told me about a friend — who was a Pastor’s wife — that figured out how to get the house ready for visitors in about 15 minutes. We joked about how we would probably never be quite that expedient, nor even try. Yet, even though we never set after that goal, we do have a home that makes it quick and simple to welcome guests {though, 15 minutes might be a stretch, ha!}.

How? Well, it’s not like our home is always spic-and-span. In fact, it’s far from that. Instead, we’ve made many choices, over the years, that are centered around simplicity. For example:
Hard Floors – we prefer cleaning with a broom/dust mop over lugging around the vacuum
Flat-Weave Rugs – flat-weave rugs are thin, won’t get matted down, some can even go in the washer
Bins and Baskets – attractive bulk storage is perfect for quickly picking up toys
Cleaning Supply Storage – keep cleaning products in the associated rooms
Of course, there are many more examples, but today I’m sharing a few bedroom cleaning hacks. I’ve been using these handy tricks in our home for years, but they have been especially helpful in our Master Bedroom which is full of deep colors, white linens, and an array of textures.
Bedroom Cleaning Hacks
#1: Lint Roll Soft Surfaces
I don’t know about you, but our bedrooms collect a ton of lint and dust. The lint seems obvious, from clothing, but I’m not sure why bedrooms become such dust collectors? Maybe it’s the ceiling fans that stir up and move dust into corners? Or things like opening and shutting closet doors every day? Either way, in both our homes, it has amazed me how quickly we can create some massive dust bunnies in the corners of a bedroom. Worse, if there are curtains and a bed skirt that brush the floor, the dust bunnies find their way onto the fabric.

Of course, you can clean curtains with a vacuum attachment, but I’ve never found that to be convenient. Similarly, a bed skirt can be tossed in the wash, but that requires removing the mattress {and those things are heavy}. So, besides “spring cleaning” a few times each year, I prefer simpler ways to execute these tasks on a regular basis.
A Scotch-Brite™ 50% Stickier Lint Roller makes it simple to remove dust from a curtain. Of course, it’s worst at the base where it brushes the floor. Simply grab the end of the curtain to make it taut, and roll the lint roller along it.
Similarly, use a lint roller to wipe down a bed skirt and remove dust. We have a navy bed skirt, so lint and dust really show up on the dark color. I’m always impressed with how much better our bed skirt looks after it has been cleaned with a lint roller.

If you have a fabric headboard, use a lint roller to remove dust. It’s especially handy along the top edge where the dust settles.
Lint gets stuck to bed coverings due to laying clothes on the bed while putting up laundry or getting dressed. So, in between washing quilts, duvets, and throws, use a lint roller to tidy and spot-clean.
Even if you’ve vacuumed recently, lint, thread, and hair can make an area rug appear messy. Plus, some threads and fuzz just won’t come up off the carpet with a vacuum. The Scotch-Brite™ 50% Stickier Lint Roller is super sticky with Scotch™ adhesive, great for grabbing stray, stubborn particles from carpets and other soft surfaces.
#2: Cloth Wipe Hard Surfaces
A micro-fiber cloth is handy for wiping down hard surfaces. In our bedroom, the main offenders are the trim work and navy walls. Folks, this is something to consider if you like a deep wall color. Dark paint will show dust. Attach a micro-fiber cloth to a dust mop and wipe down walls quickly.

Use the same cloth to wipe down trim work and flat surfaces.
#3: Freshen the Space
The smell of lavender gives bedrooms a clean, restful, fresh, scent. After tidying up the bedrooms, I like to give the linens a quick, non-toxic, spritz with DIY Fabric Freshener.
INGREDIENTS
1/2 tbsp Baking Soda
3-4 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
Warm Water
2 oz Spray Bottle
Simply mix a half tablespoon baking soda with warm water and 3-4 drops of lavender essential oil in a small spray bottle. I found this 2oz bottle in the travel section at Walmart. Spray the mixture on linens in the bedroom for a lovely aroma, perfect for rest. This is a favorite tip for welcoming overnight guests! How nice to end a long day of travel in a peacefully scented bedroom?
Bedroom Cleaning Kit
One of the ways we have simplified cleaning tasks is by storing supplies where it will be used. All of our bedrooms are on the second floor, off a hallway with a linen closet. I filled a clear bin from Walmart with all of the supplies and placed it in the linen closet. The bin is actually designed for refrigerators, but the handles and sturdy plastic make it a great mini-tote for cleaning products.

The Scotch-Brite™ Lint Rollers can be found at Walmart in several different locations, including the Cleaning Aisle, Sewing & Notions, and Laundry. I grabbed the 95-Sheet Scotch-Brite™ Lint Roller and a double pack of Scotch-Brite™ 50% Stickier Lint Rollers {each with 60 sheets + 10 bonus sheets} in the Laundry Section, near the Ironing Boards. The Scotch-Brite™ Lint Roller is great for keeping clothes lint, hair & fuzz free. It can be used on pants, coats, sweaters, dresses, suits, formal wear and more. The Scotch-Brite™ 50% Stickier Lint Rollers can do even more than just picking up lint and pet hair. It has 50% more adhesive to pick up items such as crumbs, sand or glitter. Like I do in my bedroom, you can avoid pulling out the vacuum cleaner for spot cleaning.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to use lint rollers for much more than just clothing. If you’d like to see more tips, tricks, and ideas for using Scotch-Brite™ Lint Rollers around the home, head over to the Stick It To Lint Campaign for creative ideas.

It's also great to run the lint roller over bathroom rugs. Use them for a quick pick up on living room rugs instead of dragging out the vacuum.

Huh, it never occurred to me to use a lint roller to clean bed skirts and things like that. That is such a great idea! Rooms do collect a lot of dust , true and I never thought of using a lint roller to clean it. My husband is probably the only one who uses a lint roller to dust of certain pieces of clothing.
