Our guest bathroom renovation is complete.

This may not be a surprise to some of you, but do-it-yourself renovation projects take time. Sometimes, it feels like we are moving at a snail’s pace.
We started stripping wallpaper back in June of 2015 {yes… nearly a year ago}. The wallpaper wasn’t hung properly, which made it impossible to avoid damaging the drywall during removal. At this point, with horribly damaged walls, we were stuck.
So, we decided to invest in hiring a contractor to fix the drywall. This lull in the project actually ended up being beneficial. Knocking out a project in a week or two is great, but sometimes you need to think through the end goals and design.
Creating a home can be a slow process, and that is okay.
After we had smooth, freshly-mudded drywall, we decided to tackle a new-to-us project: board and batten.
The board and batten defines the space, it feels custom, and gives our home character.

The trimwork provides an ideal spot for towel hooks; which was a much-needed storage requirement in this makeover. Plus, I’m really pleased with the look of hanging art just above the top rail.
There is a vintage vibe in this space, both through the artwork and accessories. It’s truly a collected space.
I didn’t hesitate to mix metals — using brass, oil-rubbed bronze, and silver — all in this small room.

If you choose pieces that you love, mixing metals won’t seem like a mistake — it will look intentional.
I’ve loved navy vanities for a long time, so I’m excited to have one in our home. It’s actually the same vanity that was here before, with a coat of paint and several structural updates.
It’s really pretty incredible that this is the old, small, vanity that was here when we moved in.
I can’t leave you without sharing a reminder of how far this space has come. The before and afters are what remind me to be thankful for what we’ve been able to accomplish in the 2.5 short years in this home.
Our navy and white bathroom is a huge transformation from that “before” shot, right? Don’t get stuck on the aesthetic choices in an old home… those things can always be changed, but it may require a little patience.
What’s the slowest project you’ve undertaken? How did it turn out in the end?

I love how tour bathroom turned out. So fun. I love all the vintage touches!!
I know you shared where some of the items came from, but could you please share with me again, where you got your artwork?
Is Thrifted and Gifted websites,? I can’t seem find the artwork.

Thank you, Jenny! Sorry it took me a few days to reply. "Thrifted and Gifted" just means that some were thrift store finds, and others were gifts. But I can see where it looks like a store name, so I'm going to edit that! My apologies for the confusion. I found the floral prints and bird prints from thrift stores. A few of the others were gifts. Let me know if there is a specific one you are interested in and I can take a look at it, I might be able to point you to an artist or resource. Hope that helps!!
