Simple Ribbon Bookmark | 15 Minute Back to School Craft

Learn how to make a simple ribbon bookmark. This easy back to school craft can be completed in under 15 minutes — and it’s both pretty and functional!

Who doesn’t like a quick and easy craft, right? This may be one of the simplest crafts that I’ve ever shared. It was inspired by Craft Lighting, where bloggers share projects that can be completed in 15 minutes or less. Well, this project definitely fits the bill. In fact, you can complete a whole set of ribbon bookmarks in under 15 minutes.

Besides being simple, ribbon bookmarks are functional and pretty. After you go school supply shopping, the ribbon bookmarks can be matched to the school supplies — a decorative way to keep planners and notebooks organized.

How to Make a Ribbon Bookmark

To begin, gather the supplies. It’s a pretty simple supply list, you’ll only need:

  • paper clips
  • ribbon
  • scissors

I didn’t buy anything for this quick 15-minute project and it put a dent in my ribbon stash at the same time {win-win, right?}.

Next cut the ribbon into small strips, approximately 5″-6″ long.  Once cut, slide them through the paper clip and tie in a knot.

After tying, cut the ends of the ribbon to a slant, which will give it a clean edge.

My daily planner has a mix of pink florals on the cover, so I chose a variety of pink ribbon. Some of the bookmarks have a single ribbon and other paper clips have a mix of ribbons in various shades of pink.

Get Organized for Back to School

I’ve been using ribbon bookmarks on my planner for over a year — and it’s a handy, simple way to stay organized. Typically, I’ll mark the start of the current month and the current week with a ribbon clip. That way, I’m not flipping through the planner looking for the correct dates.

A student could use ribbon bookmarks for a planner, but they also work great for keeping a notebook organized. Use the bookmarks to mark the current page in the notebook — or mark several subjects within a notebook.

If you’ve got more than 15 minutes to invest into a Back to School project, make a Command Center from an old picture frame. We use our Command Center every day — even when my son isn’t in school.
