Learn how to reupholster an ottoman with a Mexican blanket. An old leather ottoman gets a bohemian-style, Aztec makeover.
I own furniture that I’m not all that excited about. For example; early in our marriage we bought a faux leather storage bench. It’s practical and functional; but isn’t hitting high marks in style.
That is, until it got a quick makeover.
Reupholster an Ottoman with a Mexican Blanket
Mexican blankets are affordable and easy to source — here is the selection on Amazon, for example. I couldn’t pass up this blanket from one of Hannah’s Instagram Sales {she is a must-follow if you love vintage and antique quilts}; because it had just the right color palette for our bedroom makeover.
You don’t have to be a seamstress in order complete a basic re-upholstery project; but you will need the right tools.
Storage Ottoman Makeover // Tools
- Pinking Shears {this type of fabric scissor prevents fraying}
- Staple Gun and Staples
- Fabric, Blanket — or any textile of your choice
Once you have the correct tools on hand, you can start tackling a variety of small re-upholstery projects {like ottoman, bench, chair and footstool cushions} — and it’s a skill that you can use again and again.
What old, un-loved furniture could you transform with a modern fabric or a colorful blanket?
