We’ve made some more progress outside. After several rainy days, we’ve had a week of comfortable fall temps and sunshine. In particular, our front door has experienced a major upgrade… from a dreary dark green to a soft mint.
Where Did We Begin?
If you recall, our long-term plan is to get rid of the forest green, starting with the front door.
Here’s a closer view of the door, from inside the house {that coral color is gone, too!}. It’s not necessarily a bad color, but it feels heavy and outdated paired with the rest of this home’s color palette.
Painting Mint Green Front Door
I chose the Hi-Hide Latex Paint from Porter Paints — though I realized afterward that an exterior paint would have probably been the best choice. Luckily, there is a glass storm door in front of it (as well as the covered porch) so the paint should be well-protected from the elements.
The color is St. Augustine, which is a soft, yet cheery mint green. It’s also a near match to the paint that I used on our entryway mirror. I actually narrowed down the colors before realizing how identical it was to the mirror… so, apparently I’m a big fan of this green shade right now.
Our fall wreath really pops now that it is hung against a light door. I like how the soft green works with fall colors, giving the warm tones a bit of a fresh, farmhouse feel.
You might notice that there are no longer shutters flanking the door (don’t remember the shutters? scroll back up to the before photo at the start of this post). Removing the door shutters makes a big impact on curb appeal, even though it’s not an obvious change.
We also removed the dark green decorative corbels that were hung at each end of the porch. These simple edits make our house feel a bit more modern. What elements, on the exterior of your home, could be edited out to change the feel of the house’s curb appeal?
There is a garage door on the opposite end of the porch, which we painted in St. Augustine, too. Not only do I love the color, the second dose of mint green also ties in the color palette across the length of the porch.
I’m liking the progress we’ve made thus far; but this will probably be about it, for now. The days are getting shorter and cooler and it’s time to turn our attention back inside. What color is your front door?
