Farmhouse Style Breakfast Nook Reveal

This quaint little breakfast nook, with a nod to farmhouse style, actually came together rather quickly. It wasn't even on my decorating radar for 2016, but then we decided to sell our home... and plans changed.

What an unexpected surprise, because we are loving this space in our home. Loving it not just for looks, but for how functional it is, as well. We typically eat breakfast in here, and sometimes lunch. It's convenient for when the kids want a snack or if I'm drinking a coffee while working on a project.

The light pours in from the window, which makes it a great space to work. The industrial pendant light was found at a local Lexington shop called Street Scene. We've got a similar light hanging in our Entry Way. If I recall correctly, I believe the lights are made locally, as well.

The light's style is a perfect contrast to the vintage, turned-leg, drop-leaf table. This table was actually my grandparents at one point and my mom has given it to me {on loan} in order to stage our home for selling.

In typical farmhouse style, the chairs don't match. The black in the traditional Windsor-style chairs is repeated in the wall decor. I hung a wooden growth chart on the wall which is both functional and decorative art. It has already been used as a fun photo prop, which I'll be sharing soon.

The other side of the window is an Instagram photo display that I created from a vintage yardstick. Sometimes decor magazines and experts give us the impression that family photos aren't curated enough for our walls. Instead, I believe that there is no reason not to display family photos in your home. In fact, are we creating a home if our family isn't shared in the decor?

The curtains are from a flea market in Lexington. I love them and their vintage floral goodness. They will be going with us to our next home. I've literally looked forward to the day when they would be hanging up against a neutral painted wall, instead of plaid wallpaper {see the before photo in this post}. They can shine, now. Maybe I'm being dramatic about these curtains?

Maybe not.

On the other wall is both a personal favorite and a best seller in my Shop. The Initial Wreath Print features both black and gold with our family name.

  1. Wow! This is stunning! I love the images, and that hanging light and vintage curtain are just gorgeous. The Instagram photo display is really cool and that growth chart - love them both. My favorite thing is that you made the space less cluttered - I love the beautiful simplicity and the added color!!!

  2. I love the way you displayed the photos! so so cute, I've got one of those ugly old meters that I can use on my wall, don't need to buy anything fancy. Thanks for sharing great idea!

    1. You're welcome! I love how it turned out and I like using old things to decorate.

  3. You know I'm a sucker for florals and sherwin williams so when you put the 2 together I can't even handle it. I LOVE the combination. The soft grey lets the curtains be the star of the room! As they should be 🙂 Love the light fixture too...it would look great in any decor style!

  4. Looks great! I tried Repose Grey in my son's room, but it had too much of a purple undertone for that space. Perhaps it does better in more natural light? Glad it worked for you!

    1. I'd say if anything I notice hints of green sometimes. It definitely could be the light. The grey in the adjacent dining room does have purple undertones that I notice, but it's a much deeper grey.

  5. I love the growth chart! Such a fun and simple idea. We have SW Worldly Grey in our basement and I LOVE it. It is the perfect combination of warm and cool with no funny undertones.

    1. I'll have to check out Worldly Grey. I've seen it online but haven't looked at it in the store.

  6. I don't even know where to start on this post. I'm totally swooning over the WHOLE room. Seriously. I mean the light, the table decor, the curtains, it's PERFECT!! My favorite part has to be the photo display. I'm loving unique photo displays these days and this one tops the list. Great job!

    1. Awww, thanks Sarah 🙂 So sweet of you!!! I love to find ways to display family photos, too.

    1. I think what is so great about Farmhouse style is how comfortable it feels. At least, that is what I really love about it!

  7. I am in love with rustic interior designs! This small breakfast nook looks so cozy and warm. I wish I'd had a space like this in my home.

  8. I adore your breakfast nook! I'm not so good with design so I love seeing photos from bloggers who are, and this nook is truly lovely! The wall ruler, and the table ceiling pendant light are AMAZING! Beautiful job! xoxoxo
