Happy Monday! How was your weekend? We had gorgeous weather on Friday and I spent some time finishing up the details of our Quick Patio Makeover. It has been over a month since I shared the inspiration photos with you so it’s starting to feel like a “not-quite-so-quick” patio makeover, but we hit a couple small bumps along the road. I’ll share those little glitches with you when I share the full reveal next week {UPDATE: You can find the Patio Reveal here}.
For today, I wanted to show you my new, blue, covered patio cushions.
Our patio set came with a grey striped seat cushion and red lumbar cushions. They looked nice, but we already had lots of warm tones in the deck, area rug and patio umbrella. So the main goal of the patio makeover was to add some cool blues into the space.
I hadn’t intended to change the cushions until I saw a post from Christy at Confessions of a Serial DIYer on how to sew easy outdoor cushion covers. She started with a basic beige-y seat cushion and transformed it with a fresh, green fabric and striped trim.
My mom came in town that weekend {and she’s an amazing seamstress}, so we set off to Joann’s and picked up fabric and thread for about $13 total.
That evening we had 4 completed lumbar cushion covers for my patio {thanks, Mom!!!}. We didn’t use a pattern or tutorial, just measured the pillows and then cut the pieces from there.
They aren’t made with outdoor fabric since we don’t leave our cushions out all the time. There is a storage bench on the patio that holds the lumbar cushions, throw pillows and some other patio items. It protects the cushions from moisture and fading.
The cushion covers have an envelope back so that they are removable and can be thrown in the wash if they get dirty.
I am loving the pop of color they add, and how they contrast with our throw pillows.
Definitely worth a few hours of work and $13!
Have you been working on your patio? What inexpensive projects have you tried?

Yep, she is the reason I love being creative, because she has always been creating something. Good luck recruiting your mom :)

I know! That's about what it costs for one person to eat dinner out -- I'll take 4 pillows for that any day, haha :)

Thanks so much! I was initially going to go with a solid blue, but I'm so glad I found this print :)
