Fabric Covered Cork Board

Working as an event planner, I have multiple events going on each month so I must be organized in order to make the events successful.  To bring in both color and organization to my office, I created a bright fabric covered cork board.

This project was so much fun to complete!  It cost less than $10 to create and only took 30 minutes to make.  The supplies I used included an IKEA Corkboard (size 22 3/4 x 15 1/4), Thumbtacks, Fabric (1/2 yard), and a glue gun.  I chose to use duck cloth as it was thicker and I felt it would be more durable over time. When choosing thumbtacks, be sure to use the kind that is flat and look like nail heads.

Before starting the project, you will want to iron your fabric so that it is nice and smooth and free of any wrinkles.

Next, lay the fabric over the cork board making sure to leave at least two inches extra on the sides.  Begin pushing the thumbtacks one by one into the cork along the edge of the board.

Continue putting thumbtacks in the cork until the perimeter of the board is covered.

Next, flip the board over and carefully cut off any excess fabric you have outside of the 2 inches that will be glued to the back of the board.

After cutting, carefully pull the fabric and glue it tightly to the back of the board using a hot glue gun.

Voila!  You have a customized fabric cork board! I love how it turned out and how simple it was to make.  I’m sure I’ll be making another one to have in my home office as well.

What projects have you completed to keep you more organized?
