Inspiration: 5 Ways to Use a Dresser

Last Thursday I shared about the antique dresser that I'm using in our Guest Bedroom to store craft supplies. As promised, today I'm going to share 5 unique ways to use a dresser -- none of which are to store clothing!

There are so many ways to use dressers. And in so many different rooms of your home.

#1: Next to the Bed

You could use a small dresser as a nightstand. Fill it with your nightly reading material, jewelry and small accessories.

#2: In a Bathroom

A dresser used within a bathroom could hold all your bath linens or extra toiletries like toilet paper, cotton balls and q-tips.

#3: On a Landing

A narrow dresser could sit on a stairwell landing. Perfect for holding items used around the home like board games, card games and stationary.

#4: In the Living Room

Dressers used in the living room could store all of your family keepsakes, like wedding albums, scrapbooks and photos -- close at hand for an evening reminiscing!

#5: In an Entryway

Entryways often get cluttered with keys, phones, shoes and outdoor accessories. What better way to keep things organized than with a dresser?

So, the next time you're at a yard sale or thrift shop keep an eye out for dressers -- they're more than just clothing storage!

Where in your home could you use a dresser? What would it hold?

  1. I repainted an old chest, put casters on it and use it in the garage as my tool chest. Works great and its girly.

  2. I have a friend that used a low dresser (short but wide) in her kitchen as an island of sorts. It was super cute and function.

  3. We've got the dresser in the entryway going on here....it's very handy! (and yet I still find myself sticking stuff on top of it instead of in the drawers! old habits die hard, I guess)

  4. Haha, yeah I understand that. Our kitchen island is the constant drop everything off spot, no matter how many other places we have designated for stuff. I like that dresser you have in the entry -- especially with all those cute squirrels surrounding it! 🙂

  5. That is such a cool idea. A stylish tool chest! I love it -- though my husband might think I'm infringing on his space if I suggest it, haha.

  6. Well, I am currently building a shoe dresser. Looks like a dresser from the front, but the drawers tilt out and will hold shoes!

  7. Love that tall bathroom shower! I am currently turning an antique dresser into a kitchen island. removed the top, adding ikea butcher block, added beadboard to the back, and good coat of red paint. I hope it turns out as pretty as i envision it;)

  8. I painted an old dresser white to match my kitchen cabinets and I use it to store Tupperware, dishtowels, cookbooks and office supplies. The top holds my silver service and a big bowl of oranges.

  9. LOVE LOVE LOVE dressers! I have 5 I think. One in my bathroom and one in my living room one in my dining room and the other's in bedrooms! 🙂

  10. Love this post! I agree dressers are great to put in most rooms - even unexpected areas are fun! Thanks for sharing at Silver Pennies Sundays. x

  11. Great collection of inspiration. I really love the ones shown in the bathrooms! We're currently using one as a kitchen island and sometimes I move it to the dining room to use as a buffet.

  12. Thanks! I love those bathroom examples too! That is smart to make it multi-functional and move it as needed 🙂
