Craft Storage in a Dresser

I’ve been slowly updating the Guest Bedroom. It’s a multi-functional room, for sure. Not only is it the resting spot for our overnight guests, but it also serves as a mini-office — and now, craft storage space too!

See that lovely old wooden chest of drawers in the corner? All my DIY storage is located in those antique drawers. I pretty much love this dresser.

I purchased it for around $200 at the Peddler’s Mall in Lexington. There is so much character in it, from the dovetail joints to the keyholes at the top of each drawer.

I had found that my DIY supplies were so often spread around the house… some stuff downstairs, other items upstairs, many with no real home at all. Since I had this empty dresser sitting in my Guest Bedroom, it seemed like a great option. Also, I can close the door to this room, which keeps my little toddler away from all the glue and paint hidden in these drawers. Even though I love his artwork, I don’t think we want him decorating the walls and floors 🙂

Hidden inside the top two small drawers are watercolors, acrylic paints, brushes, rub-n-buff and more.

The first large drawer holds my fabric — either leftovers from DIY projects {you might recognize the bright blue Moroccan fabric I used for the patio cushions; peeking out from the stack on the left} or larger remnants I’ve picked up on sale.

I’d refer to this next drawer as the “organizing” drawer.  I stash it with chalkboard tags, bulldog clips, twine, adhesives and more. Anytime I need a pretty label, this drawer is my starting point.

Erica and I love to shop thrift stores. You can find unique art and vintage frames at great prices. Unfortunately, sometimes I collect the art faster than I hang the art 🙂 So, this is my wall art “in Process” drawer.

The last drawer is a catch-all for the other DIY projects I’ve completed or currently working on. Like wooden spools from the Indie Arts & Vintage Marketplace, embroidery hoops, and plastic animals leftover from my push pin project.

Would you ever guess all that was stored in that dresser? It’s such a better use of our Guest Bedroom than just sitting empty most of the time. In fact, often, those projects are strewn out across the bed because I use the space a lot. But when we do have guests I can clean it up in just a few minutes.

The blog world introduced me to the beauty of a dresser. They can work in almost any room in your house, and can serve so many different purposes besides just holding clothes.

Next week, I’ll share some Dresser Inspiration. Until then, how could you be using the less-used spaces in your home?
