Elegant Christmas Table Setting

Regular readers know that — once a month — I do a Contributor Post at Beauty in the Mess. For November, I shared How to Throw a Holiday Party on a Budget, and you got a glimpse of my Christmas tablescape. I pulled together an elegant Christmas table setting for a dinner party… for a grand total of $0.00! A deal, right? I mean, that’s even cheaper than a set of paper plates.

To read my tips on throwing budget friendly dinner parties, visit Beauty in the Mess. Those tips will work for any color palette or theme. So, for today, I’m going to show you a bit more of that tablescape and how I chose the design and color palette.

I bought skinny mid-century candlesticks, back in August, at a yard sale. They may be old, but they are new to me — and I’ve been using them everywhere {for an Apple Cider Bar and a Fall Centerpiece}. No surprise, then, that they became the inspiration piece for my Christmas Tablescape.

The dramatic black “table runner” {visit Beauty in the Mess to see what it actually is} with gold polka dots echoes the brass finish — and a lace table cloth compliments the delicate lines — of the mid-century candlesticks.

My go-to white dishes match everything, but a green napkin and magnolia leaf place card bring in additional color. I chose green to pair with black and white because it is a Christmas color. So, even though there aren’t any pine, berries, or holly, it is still a Christmas-y tablescape.

The chargers and silverware are both silver. While gold or brass would be perfect for this tablescape, silver works well. It’s okay to mix metallics on a tablescape, just like it’s okay in a room design. Plus, it’s cheaper than buying new silverware… or chargers… or candlesticks!

I love the bold colors and the things you used to create the tablescape. The wrapping paper goes very well with the green and it is such a frugal idea too. I popped over to read your post at Beauty in the Mess - I love all the tips you gave.
