This may not be a surprise to some of you, but do-it-yourself renovation projects take time. Sometimes, it feels like we are moving at a snail's pace.
We started stripping wallpaper back in June of 2015 {yes... nearly a year ago}. The wallpaper wasn't hung properly, which made it impossible to avoid damaging the drywall during removal. At this point, with horribly damaged walls, we were stuck.

So, we decided to invest in hiring a contractor to fix the drywall. This lull in the project actually ended up being beneficial. Knocking out a project in a week or two is great, but sometimes you need to think through the end goals and design.
Creating a home can be a slow process, and that is okay.
After we had smooth, freshly-mudded drywall, we decided to tackle a new-to-us project: board and batten.

The board and batten defines the space, it feels custom, and gives our home character.

The trimwork provides an ideal spot for towel hooks; which was a much-needed storage requirement in this makeover. Plus, I'm really pleased with the look of hanging art just above the top rail.

There is a vintage vibe in this space, both through the artwork and accessories. It's truly a collected space.

I didn't hesitate to mix metals -- using brass, oil-rubbed bronze, and silver -- all in this small room.

If you choose pieces that you love, mixing metals won't seem like a mistake -- it will look intentional.
I've loved navy vanities for a long time, so I'm excited to have one in our home. It's actually the same vanity that was here before, with a coat of paint and several structural updates.

It's really pretty incredible that this is the old, small, vanity that was here when we moved in.

I can't leave you without sharing a reminder of how far this space has come. The before and afters are what remind me to be thankful for what we've been able to accomplish in the 2.5 short years in this home.

Our navy and white bathroom is a huge transformation from that "before" shot, right? Don't get stuck on the aesthetic choices in an old home... those things can always be changed, but it may require a little patience.
What's the slowest project you've undertaken? How did it turn out in the end?

That's such a good idea mixing the metals in a modern environment. Always loved the combination of clean new and modern rooms mixed with some vintage things, gives it that really extra special look. Gorgeous photos
Thanks, Alina! I always feel like a room without something old is missing something 🙂

Thanks, Jenny!
I love the colors! Especially the floor! Great job!
Thanks, Jessica!
I've been loving the nautical feel of navy and white lately. It's the perfect colour scheme for a bathroom.
What a transformation! The space looks amazing! *Insert heart eyes emoji here*

It definitely has that serence, beachy, calming color scheme -- that I agree is great for bathrooms.
I love the new look of the bathroom and how you place such thoughts into creating a room. The mixed colors blend well together with all the vintage collection and art pieces. There are definitely DIY projects that feel like they would never get done. Some wallpaper can be so tricky to remove. But glad you were able to hire a contractor to fix the wall. Love the board and batten, navy vanity, and that faucet!
Thanks! Wallpaper can be horrible! Fingers crossed our next home is wallpaper free 😉
Your renovation looks AMAZING! Love the white and navy!

Thanks, Patranila!
It looks so great! We started a bathrom project more than a year ago (April 2015), and we just finished it today....just in time for us to move out of our house. I'm so sad I won't get to enjoy it!
Unfortunately, I totally understand your pain! We've done that in several of our homes 🙁
oh wow, it looks fabulous!
Thanks, Angela! Glad you stopped by!
I love everything about this look! It's so beautiful, and it looks so classy and clean too.
Thanks, Angie!! 🙂
Such a nice bathroom! I love the colour combinations of navy, white, and gold. That mirror in particular is lovely!
