How to Attach Metal to Ceramic (DIY Bud Vase)

I think these colorful bud vases from Anthropologie are so fresh and sweet for spring.

While completing the YHL Macklemore Challenge with Erica, I came across this flower pin.

It immediately reminded me of those cute Anthro bud vases. So I added a colorful vase to my shopping list, and found it in the same store on the day we completed the challenge.

The first step was to perform flower pin surgery…

…which gave me a nice smooth surface on the back of the pin to apply a dab of  E-6000 glue.

After applying the glue, I stuck it onto the vase. This did not go so well. Here’s why:

  • Glue is slippery
  • Vases are slippery

Shocking, I know, but I didn’t anticipate that problem ahead of time and the flower pin was just sliding all over the vase, getting glue everywhere. So I wiped it off to start over.

To hold the pin in place, I rigged up this fancy rubberband contraption {putting that engineering degree to work}.

But, alas, another problem. This time it was a glue drip.

Luckily a quick swipe with an exact-o knife and it was fixed.

The thrifted flower pin was a little pricey in my opinion, at $5. But for $6.50 total, I’m quite happy with this colorful little bud vase.

Supplies

  • Vase – thrifted, $1.50
  • Flower Pin – thrifted, $5
  • E-6000 Glue

Here it is in my sunroom.
