When my daughter requested a ladybug-themed birthday party, I knew this game was a no-brainer. I’m all about simple parties, so I can promise you this is an easy game to create. In fact, I made all of her ladybug party decor and games the night before – so it’s definitely a simple project.

Pin the Spot on the Ladybug with Dollar Store Supplies
You’ll be able to grab most of the supplies from the dollar store (or from around your own home). We typically host birthday parties in our own home with budget-friendly supplies. That allows us to spend a bit more on party foods (yum!) and birthday gifts!
Since we always buy plates, napkins, and plastic utensils from the dollar store, I grabbed the supplies for this fun ladybug game on the same trip.
Practically every dollar store carries solid color poster board. Of course, for a ladybug, you’ll need red and black. Buy a standard 22×28 inch sheet of red poster board, but you can buy smaller sheets of black (we grabbed 3 of the 11×14 inch black sheets).
You’ll also need metallic sharpies, a chalk marker, white crayon, etc. – something that will write on black poster board.
Mask Template and Antenna Template

The mask template is sized slightly larger than most child-sized eye masks to ensure it covers their eyes and sight lines. After all, the point on any “pin the” game is to not be able to see, right?!

Pin the Spot on the Ladybug Game
Follow this easy tutorial to make a DIY Pin the Spot on the Ladybug Game for your child's ladybug-themed party. This classic game is a hit with kids and simple to create!
Materials
- Red Poster Board Sheet (22x28)
- 3 Black Poster Board Sheets (11x14)
- Metallic Sharpie Marker
- Soft Elastic Cording
Tools
- Scissors
- Hole Punch
- 2" Circle Hole Punch
- Plates and Bowls - Various Sizes
- Pencil
- Tape
Instructions
- First, make the wings from the 22"x28" red poster board. Use a plate or bowl (flipped upside down) to mark curved corners on the red poster board, shaping it into a wing. Cut along the pencil lines. The wings will be 11" wide x 28" high.
- Next, make the ladybug head from an 11"x14" black poster board. Again, use a plate or bowl (flipped upside down) to mark the rounded shape of the ladybug head on the black poster board. Cut along the pencil lines. The head will be approximately 11" wide x 2.5" high.
- Next, make the antennae from an 11"x14" black poster board. Print the antenna template (download info is in the post). Cut it out and use it to mark two antennae on the remaining black poster board.
- Flip over the wings and ladybug head to the back. Tape the pieces into the shape of a ladybug, as shown. The base layer (#1) is an 11"x14" black poster board. The red wings are layers #2 and #3. The black ladybug head is layer #4. Then, the antennae will be attached last (#5 and #6).
- Use the 2" hole punch to cut out dots for the ladybugs wings. Also, punch enough additional dots for each child at the party to "pin the dot on the ladybug".
- Print the mask template (download info is in the post). Cut it out and use it to mark a mask on the remaining red or black poster board. Punch holes on each end of the mask and thread elastic cording through them. Tie to secure.
- During the party, mark the dots with the child's name or initials, using metallic marker (or white crayon, white chalk marker, etc. - anything that will write on black poster board). Attach a loop of tape to the back for the child to "pin the dot on the ladybug". The child closest to an actual ladybug dot is the winner!
