Once we finished the curtains and plants for my daughter’s dollhouse bedrooms, she requested a dollhouse bunk bed for her “Chelsea” Barbie dolls. Turns out, I still had enough on hand from the dollhouse kitchen and fireplace that I didn’t even have to go to the store. We whipped this cute bunk bed up in no time!
With a few items from your local craft store, you can make a bunk bed for you child’s dollhouse. Doll furniture is a great gift idea for your child. Or, you can make dollhouse furniture with your child’s help – they’ll love helping create their own toys!

My daughter’s handmade wood dollhouse sits in the corner of her pink bedroom. The white paint and light blue trim ties in well with the decor in her sweet, little girl’s bedroom. But, the inside hasn’t received any love and it’s time to build some handmade dollhouse furniture.
In the bedrooms, we’ve made dollhouse curtains, placed DIY dollhouse plants in the corners, and decorated the walls with “wallpaper”. So, now it is time to give her dolls a proper place to sleep with a Barbie bunk bed.
Dollhouse Bunk Bed Size
Rather than scale the bunk beds to Barbie size, or 1:6 (also called Fashion Doll size), we chose to simply size the bunk beds to fit her Chelsea dolls. This allows the space in her dollhouse’s bedroom to be used for other items.
In other words, we were ok with the the bunk beds being slightly small in order to fit more in her doll’s bedroom. If scale is important to you, you’ll want the bunk beds to be 1:6 twin bed length – which means that a regular full-size Barbie doll could lay on the dollhouse bunk bed.
How to Make a Dollhouse Bunk Bed
Before you begin this project, be sure to measure your dollhouse space to figure out the dimensions you’ll need for the bunk bed. Then, head to your local craft store and look for suitable wood supplies.
For this project, you can use wood products such as balsa wood strips, scrap wood, wood trays, and dowel rods. Be creative!
